Do Video Games Really Work?

The intersection of gaming and learning is an increasingly hot topic in the 21st Centurty K-12 learning community. But, are video games really providing any benefits for helping students in these age groups to learn?

This infographic by Online College Course gives a breakdown a-la original Nintendo of the opinions of teachers who use video games in the classroom, as well as the benefits and concerns associated with doing exactly that.  We find the data on teachers’ input from parents who see their kids playing video games at home, and then hear about them playing more during school hours, quite fascinating. Clearly, establishing the difference between gaming experiences in a school versus a home environment would be a great way to avoid quickly brushing off video games in classrooms as a viable teaching (and learning) method.
